Arousal Flashcards
What is the drive theory?
It suggests that performance directly increases with arousal.
What is the formula for drive theory?
P = f(D x H)
Define arousal.
An energised state, a readiness to perform, a drive to achieve.
What is the inverted-U theory?
Performance increases with arousal until the optimal point. Any increase after this will decrease performance.
What level of arousal usually suits autonomous athletes?
High arousal levels as they can work under high pressure and can work at a fast pace.
What level of arousal is the best for cognitive learners.
Low arousal as they are not used to high pressure and can’t work at a fast pace because their decision making will be slower.
What arousal levels do gross skills require?
High arousal.
What arousal levels do fine skills require?
Low arousal.
What levels of arousal do extroverts typically have?
High arousal.
What levels of arousal do introverts typically have?
Low arousal.
What arousal levels do complex skills require?
Low arousal as they involve more decision making.
What arousal levels to simple skills require?
They can be executed at high arousal.
What is the catastrophe theory?
Performance increases with arousal until a point, where any increase in arousal will cause a significant drop in performance. However if the performer reduces anxiety, they can recover their performance.
