Define anxiety
Anxiety is a state of nervousness or worry.
State the 4 types of anxiety
State, Trait, Cognitive, Somatic
What is competitive trait anxiety?
When a player feels nerves before the game. It is displayed before any type of competition.
What is competitive state anxiety?
A temporary rise in anxiety during a certain situation. This increase can affect the outcome unless the nerves are controlled.
What is the link between state and trait anxiety?
If a performer has high levels of trait anxiety, they are likely to experience high levels of state anxiety.
What is cognitive anxiety?
When the performer doubts their abilities in their mind. It can lead to a loss of concentration.
What is somatic anxiety?
This is the body’s response to the performer’s self-doubts. Somatic anxiety can improve performance and the decrease it at a certain level, much like the inverted-up theory.
What are 4 symptoms of somatic anxiety?
Sickness, Increased HR, Sweating, Muscular tension.
What are the 3 methods of measuring anxiety?
Questionnaire, Observation, Physiological measures
Name an Ad and Dis of questionnaires.
They are quick and easy however the player may not understand the questions.
Name one Ad and Dis of observations.
They are true to life, however they are time consuming.
Name one Ad and Dis of physiological measures.
They are factual however the equipment may restrict movement.
