Define sports law.
Regulations that govern sports and the athlete who partake in them.
What is meant by damages?
Athletes looking for compensation for a loss of earning must prove their injury and that it was from reckless actions from the opponent.
What is the Bosman ruling?
A ruling by the European court of justice that gave a footballer the right to a free transfer at the end of their contract.
Why may athletes need assistance from the law?
Spectator attacks, Violent opponents, Sponsor contracts, Employer contracts, Equality, Refereeing negligence.
What is meant by negligence?
Conduct that falls below a reasonable standard and leads to a breach of duty of care.
What is meant by duty of care?
A legal obligation of someone who is looking after a group of people.
What is health and safety legislation of coaches?
Coaches are responsible for the health and safety of the performers in their care.
What is protection from abuse legislation?
Coaches must protect children from all forms of abuse.
What is supplement legislation?
Coaches must educate and advise their performers of all legal supplements.
What is the safety of sports grounds act?
Legislation that protects all spectators and covers all grounds in sport.
What is the sporting events act?
Legislation that prevents the possession of alcohol during or on the way to a football match.
What is the occupier’s liability act?
Legislation that states that the occupier of a venue has a duty of care for all visitors.
What is the fire safety and safety of place of sport act?
A fire safety certificate and a maximum number of visitors must be set for an event to happen.
What is the football spectators act?
Legislation that allows for bans to be placed upon individuals who have committed offences.
What it the football offences act?
Law that prevents racist chanting, throwing missiles, and trespassing on to the field of play.
