It appeared on the outside that P significantly grew but in realty this was conformity. Spread in terms of practice but not in beliefs

Oxford and Cambridge work/lectures- spread ideas to next generation of clerics/thinkers.
1547- undermining of purgatory and abolition of chanceries- weakened C practices.
1553-P church in service, appearance and nature
South East.
800 P fled abroad for Mary and 300+ executed
Little opposition to laws.
Evidence against
Religious revolt in 1549.
North remained strongly C and West.
Wales resisted P strongly.
Not truly accepted by majority-records see P spread but really it was a lie to survive.
