A

She was a woman and inferiors in many of her subjects eyes. Not fit to rule due to being emotional, kinder and weak. After Mary’s disastrous and bloody rule it made people nervous to see another Queen on the throne.

Marriage

A

Her advisors pressured her to marry constantly throughout her reign and Phillip II asked to marry her. She never married in order to make sure that she never got her power and birth given right away from her.

French Duke of Anjou- manipulated people strategically to think marriage would occur.- 1576- John Stubbs- The Discovery of a Gaping Gulf. More equipped to deal with gender pressures and her advisors than Mary.

Pressure to consolidate Protestant faith but also compromise.

A

The need to find religious compromise to protect her life and create a harmonic country. To stop the divide and threats. Due to the whole of the Tudor dynasty being so chaotic and radically changing religiously.
