Strength Testing Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the Oxford Scale (strength testing).

A
  • 0 No muscle activation
  • 1/I Trace muscle activation, such as a twitch, without achieving fullrange of motion
  • 2/II Muscle activation with gravity eliminated, achieving full range of motion
  • 3/III Muscle activation against gravity, full range of motion
  • 4/IV Muscle activation against moderate resistance, full range of motion
  • 5/V Muscle activation against examiner’s full resistance, full range of motion

Q

Describe how to complete resisted isometric muscle testing.

A
  • use therapists resistance and compare to the other side as estimated %
  • use dynamometer to get numerical value
  • need to hold for 3-4 seconds (to ensure maximal contraction)
(aim to do at mid-range, as can change depended on where/what length completed)
