SOB Flashcards
1
Q
oxygen indications
A
- acute hypoxaemia
- resorb pleural gas in pneumothorax
- CO poisoning
- LTOT
2
Q
how does oxygen help in pneumothorax
A
- reducing fraction of nitrogen in alveolar gas - accelerates diffusion of nitrogen out of th ebody. pleural air is mostly nitrogen - increases rate of resorption.
3
Q
how does oxygen help in CO poisoning
A
- competes with CO to bing with Hb and so shrotens half life of carboxyhb, returning it to a form that can transport o2
4
Q
SE oxygen
A
- due to delviery device e.g. discomfort of face masks
- lack of water vapour = dry throat
- can be harmful if given unnecesarily
