Q

hartmanns indications

A
  • provide na and h20 for those who cannot take orally

- to expand cirulating volume in states of impaired tissue eprfusion e.g. shock - can be as fluid challenge

Q

MOA hartmanns

A
  • infused lactate metabolised = bicarb
  • as compound it contaons similar conc to ECF and is retained there.
  • 20% remains in vessels to expand circulating volume

Q

why is hartmanns sometimes better than nacl

A
  • lower chloride so less likely to make hyperchloraemic acidosis

Q

SE hartmanns

A
  • oedema as too much sodium can enter insterstitium

- overfilled LV - pulmonary oedema

Q

where do u prescribe hartmanns on a drug chart

A
  • infusions - volume and rate

common - 500ml at 100ml/hr and glucose 5% 2l at 100ml/hr - together this works as maintenance for a day/
