A

Occurs due to aging

Q

Glaucoma

A

Damage of the optic nerve due to increased intraocular pressure ( IOP )caused by congestion of the aqueous humor
Aqueous production and drainage are NOT equal=blocked outfow= pressure buildup in the eye
Irreversible mechanical and/or ischemic damage

Q

Glaucoma: Open angle

A

Drainage system structure degenerates and the exit channel is blocked
Initially no signs and symptoms
May need frequent lens changes in glasses
May see halos around lights
Gradual reduction of visual fields
Mild to severe increased intraocular pressure
