non-therapeutic communication
can be hurtful and potentially damaging to interaction. Changing the subject, asking why questions, giving false reassurance, being defensive or sharing personal opinions limits conversation between nurse and patient and discourages open conversation on sensitive topics
Explain SOLER
S: encourages the listener to sit and face patient
O:reminds the nurse to maintain an open stance of posture while listening
L:suggests that the listener lean toward the speaker
E: Refers to maintaining eye contact without staring
