  • Hypercapnia (>50 mmHg PaCO2) with hypoxia generally due to reduced alveolar ventilation

  • Reduced alveolar ventilation
    • Asthma/COPD/pneumonia/OSA
    • Reduced resp drive (drug/trauma)
    • Neuromuscular disease/chest wall abnormalities
