What questions might you specifically focus on in a dermatological history?
- Location of lesions, sun exposure
- Systemic features
- Time course and triggers
- Medications/occupation/allergies
What is this?
Pityriasis rosea
Normally a sentinel patch spreads to form a Christmas tree pattern
What are these lesions?
Erythema nodosum (generally these are painful and restricted to the shins)
What is this? How does it happen?
Bullous pemphigoid - probably an autoimmune reaction to skin resulting in the epidermis shearing off
What is this rash? What is the normal distribution?
Henoch-Schonlein purpura (a systemic vasculitis common in childhood) - generally on the lower limbs and low trunk only in an extensor distribution
This lesion came on over the last few weeks. What is it?
Tinea corporis.
DDx - discoid eczema
Scaly annular lesion with outer red ring, central hypopigmentation
What are these lesions? What causes them?
Molluscum contagiosum (caused by MCV)
Skin coloured papules with a central umbilicus. Can be treated in the same way as warts
What are these lesions and how are they treated?
Viral warts (HPV)
Can spontaneously regress. Treatments include topical salicyclate, DCP, imiquimod, cryotherapy, curettage, diathermy etc.
