- Abdominal obesity
- 94M, 80F in Europeans
- 90M, 80F in South Asian/Chinese)
- AND 2 or more of
- Elevated triglycerides (> 1.7 mmol/L)
- Low HDL-C (< 0.9 mmol/L M, < 1.3 mmol/L F)
- High BP (130/85 or treated)
- Hyperglycaemia (FPG > 5.6 mmol/L or diagnosed T2D)

3 x risk of stroke of heart attack
5 x more likely to develop T2D

A
- Address glucose intolerance and prevent diabetes
- Lifestyle interventions (diet and exercise)
- Pharmacological anti-hyperglycaemics
- Lap-banding
- Reduce CV risk
