What are the common differentials for goitre?
A
- Diffuse goitre
- Iodine deficiency
- Thyroiditis
- Autoimmune (Grave’s/Hashimoto’s)
- Nodular
- Multinodular (toxic/non-toxic)
- Single nodule (cyst, adenoma, malignancy)

What are the four main investigations used in assessment of goitre?
A
- TFTs
- Ultrasound
- Radionuclide scans
- FNA

What features on history/exam are suggestive of a thyroglossal cyst?
A
- Midline swelling below the hyoid bone (most common midline neck mass)
- Lump moves on tongue protrusion
- Generally asymptomatic except if infected
