Stapedius muscle is innervated by?
CN VII Facial nerve
Auditory tube AKA
Eustachian tube
cochlear duct AKA
Scala media
Organs important for equilibrium
- Saccule
- Utricle
- Semicircular canals

facial paralysis associated with hyperacusis because of the?
Stapedius muscle?

Vestibular system

Transverse temporal gyrus of Heschl
is the 6th and final synapse in the auditory cortex

Describe the auditory pathway
online check for fidelity

Describe Otosclerosis
- overgrowth of bone next to the stapes
- stapes becomes obstructed and doesn’t vibrate as it should

Otosclerosis Treatment
retract stapes and put a prosthesis in there

Describe Cholesteatoma
- overgrowth of desquamated keratin debris within the middle ear space, it may erode the ossicles
- mastoid air cells → conductive hearing loss
- often presents with painless otorrhea

Rinne Test
&
Weber Test

Meniere disease description
- the peripheral vestibular and auditory apparatus can be damaged by increased endolymphatic pressure that gradually destroys hair cells in both the vestibular and auditory peripheral systems
Meniere disease characterized by?
- abrupt attacks of severe vertigo that can last for several hours
- the attacks are immobilizing and produce nausea and vomiting
Meniere disease clinical presentation
- the vestibular symptoms are accompanied by auditory symptoms including tinnitus and progressive sensorineural deafness
- most cases are unilateral but bilateral disease does occur
Meniere disease
Meniere disease Treatment
- diuretics
- low sodium diet
- anti-histaminics
BPPV AKA
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo AKA
BPPV
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo Treatment
Epley maneuver: to restore the position of otoconia that have been displaced from utricle or saccule into semicircular canals

The Epley maneuver can be used to treat
BPPV
