Networks/connectivity in Psychiatry Flashcards
difference structural and functional connectivity
- structural is basically counting the physiscal wires/connections in one place.
- functional is looking at the connectivity between two brain regions
hoe meet je beide structural and functional connectivity
structural -> via DTI, functional -> via fMRI
what is the connectome
a map of all connectivity in the brain
what is an edge?
a connection, an axon, functional brain activity between nodes
what is a node?
neurons or brain regions
how could you use this in research?
describe the network of a certain subject, and then check the wire differences in patients and controls
how can you use this in the clinic?
- use it in early stages of the disease, check for outcome -> predictive
- use as a screening before onset -> predictive
- differences in patients -> which patient would respond well to what drug?
descriptive definition
difference between patients and controls
predictive
predict the difference in patients and controls, later on predict the differences in patients.
cross over
bc default network -> has a big effect on AD, PD etc?
