stroke avascular necrosis of joints pulmonary hypertension priaprism chronic kidney disease crises acute chest
management of a sickle cell crisis
supportive only
keep warm + hydrated
analgesia (can be morphine)
penile aspiration if priaprism
treat concomitant infection
vaso-occlusive sickle cell crises
capillaries blocked + distal ischaemia
assoc with dehydration
get pain fever + infection often triggers it
an emergency!
splenic sequestration crisis in sickle cell
acutely enlarged and painful spleen
severe anaemia and circulatory collapse
splenectomy + manage fluids/bloods
aplastic crisis in sickle
parvovirus B19
1 week of supportive care and recover
acute chest syndrome sickle diagnosis
fever or resp signs
+ new infiltrates seen on CXR
emergency
give treatment for cause
consdier ITU
