Ensure well-hydrated (fluids may be necessary if severe), supportive care, give a PPI
amy hollis has been experiencing lower abdo pain for the last three months, the pain is better after she shits and she shits a lot more than usual. Her stool is a lot looser than it usually is too
what is the diagnosis and treatment?
IBS - D
- Diet: avoid sorbitol, sweeteners caffeine and alcohol, reduce fibre intake, trial low-FODMAP/gluten free
- Antidiarrheal Drugs: loperamide, codeine phosphate, cholestyramine
Katie Angell is a young pregnant woman and has noticed that when she wipes her bum when she’s done a poo there’s blood on the paper, but not in the toilet. There is some mucus in her poo and she also feels like she’s itchy all the time!!!!!
what is the diagnosis and treatment?
first degree haemorrhoids
Measures to prevent constipation and straining (high fibre diet, laxatives)
- Band ligation
- Haemorrhoidectomy / Haemorrhoidal artery ligation operation (HALO)
Oscar has noticed that his stools have been a bit pale and his urine is a bit darker. He has also experienced some abdominal discomfort and joint pain and also appears to be slightly jaundiced. He is known to be a bit of a shagger and sometimes doesn’t use protection.
AST and ALT are both raised
what is the most likely diagnosis?
Hepatitis B
Angus presents with difficulty swallowing solid foods and a burning sensation in his chest. He has also lost 5kg in the last month and has developed a cough.
