how can you increase food security?
improving agricultural methods, using fertilisers, more productive vartieties and breeds
why is food security an issue?
rising population

why is growing foods from crops an issue?
agricultural inputs like fertilisers which increase plant growth + crop yeild
what is the definition of a sustainable process?
possible to continue it at the same level without causing harm (to environment or to food security)
why do fertlisers raise an issue of sustainability in growing food?
the fertilisers are made using chemical processes that release carbon dioxide and need energy
why do pathogens and pests move into new areas?
increasing carbon emissiona and climate change
what can help reduce carbon emissions?
growing plants for biofuels to replace fossil fuels
what is an example of pathogens caused by climate change?
midges (vectors) causes bluetongue disease which is killed by cold temps but has come to the uk due to increased temp
