Animal and plant cells - SB1 Flashcards
What are cells made from
Organelles
What do plant cells have that animal cells don’t
Cell walls (to keep structure, for efficiency)
Chloroplasts (related to chlorophyll)
Plastids (small organelles found in cytoplasm)
Components of an animal cell
Mitochondria Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell membrane Vacuole
Components of a plant cell
Cytoplasm Nucleus Vacuole Plasmids Cell wall Mitochondria Cell membrane
What is the nucleus
it stores the DNA and controls the cell
What is the cell membrane
The membrane that separates the interior components from the external environment
(controls what passes in and out of the cell)
What is the vacuole
it stores nutrients
What is the mitochondria
Produces energy for the cell through respiration
What are chloroplasts
They contain chlorophyll
What is cytoplasm
It keeps all the organelles in place within the cell
What is the difference in shape from a plant cell compared to an animal cell
Plant cells, due to them having cell walls, have more structure and form a compact shape to efficiently produce energy
Animal cells, due to having NO cell wall, are usually circular, blob like things
Why are animal cells less complex?
The components they lack are often not needed as they do not photosynthesise or produce chlorophyll
