DRUGS FOR GOUT Flashcards
NSAID used to initially treat acute gout
Indomethacin
Inhibits microtubule assembly and LTB4 production leading to decreased macrophage migration and phagocytosis
Colchicine
Adverse effect seen in Colchicine use which signals toxicity
Diarrhea
Competes with uric acid for reabsorption in the proximal tubules > increase uric acid excretion
Probenecid
Sulfinpyrazone
Fenofibrate
Losartan
Required minimum GFR level prior to Probenecid use
GFR 30 ml/min
*also in Colchicine use
Active metabolite (alloxanthine) that IRREVERSIBLY inhibits xanthine oxidase
Allopurinol
Nonpurine REVERSIBLE inhibitor of xanthine oxidase
Febuxostat
1st line treatment for CHRONIC GOUT
Allopurinol
For chronic gout in cases of Allopurinol intolerance
Febuxostat
