Defense & Barriers 1: Cytokines Flashcards
IL-1beta,alpha
produced by monocytes & other cell types
function = pro inflammatory, fever
IL-2
produced by T cells
function = T cell growth factor
IL-4
produced by Th2 cells, mast cells, basophils
function = B cell growth factor, promotes Th2 cells, IgE isotope, induces alternatively activated macrophages
IL-5
produced by Th2 cells
function = eosinophil growth factor
IL-6
produced by T cells & other cell types
function = proinflammatory
IL-10
produced by T cells & macrophages
function = anti-inflammatory, inhibits T cell and macrophage function
IL-12
produced by dendritic cells & macrophages
function = stimulates NK cells and T cells to make interferon-gamma
IL-13
produced by T cells
function = induces alternatively activated macrophages
IL-15
produced by T cells and epithelial cells
function = T cell growth factor
IL-17
produced by T cells
function = pro inflammatory, increases neutrophil recruitment
IFN-gamma
produced by Th1, NK and CD8 T cells
function = activates macrophages, upregs MHC class 2, promotes IgG2a class Abs
TNF (tissue necrosis factor)
produced by macrophages, T cells, & many other cell types
function = proinflammatory
TGF-beta
produced by macrophages, T cells, & many other cell types
function = increases IgA, inhibits immune responses, promotes wound healing and Treg cells
IFN-alpha,beta
produced by many cells
function = anti-viral cytokine
IL-21
produced by T cells
function = important for Tfh help for B cells
