conscious and unconscious responses Flashcards
consious responses
reaction to a sensory stimulus that involves awreness, usualy voluntary and have some sort of control over
2 functions of somatic nervous sytem
1.sensory input:gathering info from our senses like touch, sight, hearing
2.motor output: controlling volunatry movements like walking talking
how the autinomic system is not completely self regulating
we can regulate our breathing rate or heart rate through techniques like deep breething or meditation
our consious responses are those made by our brain that intitiates conscious movements
- sensory info is detected by our sense organs
- the sensory info detected is carried by our sensory neurons
3.our brain then processes this info recieved
4.one processing info, brain sends motor info, efferent neurons - this enables consious movement
unconcious responses
a reaction to a sensory stimulus that does not involve awareness, involuntary, can be made by autonomic and spinal cord
intitiated by
spinal cord rather than brain, also known as reflex arc
withdrawel reflex - example of spinal reflex
- sensory receptors would detect incoming sensory info (eg. detecting heat)
- info is carried by sensory neurons and recieved by interneruorons withiin spinal cord
- interneuorons rely on this info to the motor neuoron, activating releveant skeletal muscles to enable movement
neurons
building blocks of our human nervous sytem
neurotrasnimters
help transmit messages beteen nerve cells.
release?
when electrical signal reaches end of neuron, it triggers the release of neorotransmitters into the synapse, which then bind to receptors on the recieving neuron
steps
1.released at the axon terminal
2.travel across the synaptic gap
3.bind themselves to the receptor sites of post synaptic neuron
