Who won the 1932 presidential election. Why?
FDR. Americans were clearly ready for change.
Who was FDR
He was a governer and a reform minded leader. He worked to combat the problems of unemployment, poverty, he projected an air of friendliness. He beat Hoover by 7 million votes.
Although FDRs inaguration was not until March, what did he do?
Made his brain trust- a team of advisors and started pondering over his New Deal policies
What was the first hundred days.
Period lasting from March 9-June 16 Roosevelt signed many (15) pieces of legislation
On March 5, what did Roosevelt do?
Declared a bank Holiday
What was the emergency banking act?
Allowed the treasury Department to inspect the country’s banks. Those that were sound would remain open and those that were not would close

Glass Steagall Act
of 1933 established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation that provided fed. insurance for individual bank accounts of up to 5,000 reassuring millions of bank customers that their mone was safe
Federal Securities Act
1933 required coporations to provide complete information on all stock offerings and made them liable for any misinterpretations.
Securities and Exchange commission (SEC)
to regulate the stock market. Prevented rigging in the stock market.
Agricultural Adjustment Act
sought to raise crop prices by lowering poduction which the government achieved by paying farmers to leave a certain amount of every land unseeded. The theory is that it would increase prices. WAS CONTROVERSIAL
The Tennessee Valley Authority
focused on the badly depressed tennesse river valley. It renovated five existing dams and constructed 20 new ones. Created many jobs
The Civilian conservation Corps
put young men aged 18-25 to work in natural jobs helping the soil. they stayed in camps and got free food.

What did the NIRA sought to do?
Promote industrial growth by establishing codes of fair practice for individual industries. IT created the National Recovery Administration which set prices of many products and established standards.

created the Federal Housing Administration- furnish loans for home mortages and repairs.
