Who was Mary McLeod Bethune
an educator who dedicated herself to promoting oppportunities for young African Americans. She was hired by the president to head the Division of Negro Affairs of the NYA. She also worked to ensue that the NYA hired African Americans. She helped to organize the black cabinet to advise to the president on civil right issues .

preformed infront of the Lincoln Memorial. Elenor Roosevelt resigned from the Dauhters of the Revolution because they were racist.
What happened to the president and civil rights?
He failed to support it because he was afraid of upsetting white Democrats in the south.
What did the African Americans organize?
Southern Tenant Farmers Union which wanted to protect both white and black tenant famers and sharecroppers.
Why did most African Americans still support Roosevelt
Because he touched the temper of the African American community
Mexicans supported/did not support
Supported the New Deal even though that they recieved fewer benefits then the African Americans
Where did most Mexican American’s work?
On farms, as migrant workers. The occupation was uprotected by state and federal laws
What did farm workers try to do?
They tried to unionize but most efforts were met with violence from gov. workers and the employers.
