Conservitives: That the new deal made the federal gov. too large and too powerful. They believed that it stifled free enterprise and individual initiative
Liberal critics; not enough to socialize the economy. They did not eliminate social and economic inequalities.
Supporters: struck a reasonable balance between the two extremes
