Ch. 1.5 Flashcards
endotherm
living things that need their body temperature to remain the same
ectotherm
living things whose temperatures tend to fluctuate with the environment
negative feedback
when stimuli trigger a response in the body that brings the body back to where it wants to be
positive feedback
when stimuli triggers a response in the body that pushes the body further out of it’s homeostatic region (i.e. pregnancy)
dynamic constancy
how the body regulates itself. For example, it won’t always be exactly 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, but it will always be close to that. Thus dynamic because it changes, and constancy, because the changes are small and not usually outside of a certain range.
coronal plane
when the body is split in half from in a direction from ear to ear
define oblique planes
when planes pass through a structure at an angle
transverse plane
when a plane cuts the body in half from bottom to top at the hips
sagital plane
when a plane divides the body in half between the eyes
dorsal
toward the back
ventral
toward the belly side of the body
cranial
toward the head end
