Biochem II Flashcards
1
Q
What is the function of the Cahill cycle?
A
It’s the alanine cycle. Think of alan on escalator code in front of his yard. Series of reactions in which amino groups and carbons from muscle are transported to the liver.
2
Q
Function of Cori cycle?
A
Lactate generated from skeletal muscle metabolism is transported back to the liver to be converted to pyruvate and then to glucose.
3
Q
Draw out structure of urea
A
FA 93
4
Q
Site of action of alcohol dehydrogenase?
A
cytosol
5
Q
Site of action of acetaldehyde dehydrogenase?
A
mitochondria
6
Q
Southern blotting procedure
A
- DNA sample enzymatically cleaved into smaller pieces, which are separated on a gel by electrophoresis, and then transferred to a filter.
- Filter is exposed to radio labeled DNA probe that recognizes and anneals to its complementary strand.
- Resulting doble-stranded, labeled piece of DNA is visualized when filter is exposed to the film.
