Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Flashcards

1
Q

What is DHT and function with BPH

A

testerosterone is metabolized to dihydrotestosterone by 5-alpha-reductase. DHT is responsible for normal and hyperplastic growth (increase in number of cells). BPH results from overgrowth of the stromal and epithelial cells of the prostate gland
