5.5: Bulk transport across the plasma membrane occurse by exocytosis and endocytosis Flashcards
how are large/large amounts of molecules able to get in
large molecules are moved in and out of the cell by exo/endo cytosis
Exocytosis
vesicles(membrane bounded protein from ER) from inside fuse with plasma membrane and expel their contents outside the cell
Endocytosis
the process of bringing contents ino the cell by forming new vesicles on surface., removes portions of membranes to make room to add the larger molecules
3 types of endocytosis
Phagocytosis, Pinocytosis, and Receptor-Mediated Endocytosis, all use ATP
Phagocytosis
cell wraps a pseudipodia around a particle and brings it in(white blood cells)(solid)
Pinocytosis
cell takes in a small drop of outside fluid in a vesicle to take in large amounts of molecules(liquid)
Receptor-Mediated Endocytosis
a substance binds to specific receptors on the cell’s surface, this causes vesciles to form and brings in the specific molecule, what happens to animals cells, not bulk transport
