What is the process for practicing in MD again after having been on inactive status?
All you have to do is apply to the Board (within 5 years) to reactivate your license, pay the reactivation fee, and demonstrate meeting the CE requirements for the most recent 2 years.
What is inactive status? How does one achieve placement on inactive status?
If you will not be practicing in MD for several years but there is a chance you will want to practice in MD again at a later date, it is a good idea to apply for inactive status.
To do so, you submit an application for inactive status on the form required by the Board as well as the inactive status fee.
What is the major benefit of going on inactive status vs. letting your license expire?
The process to practice again is much easier if you go from inactive to active status. If you let your license expire, you will have to re-apply for a new license (whole horrible, expensive process from the beginning again!).
