How many CE hours are required during each reporting period (RP)?
What is the maximum number of APA-approved independent study CE hours per RP?
A minimum of 3 CE hours (each) is required for which two areas? (Note: so, this would be 6 total, 3 for each of the two areas).

Answer 0

A minimum of 40 CE hours per RP. Maximum of 20 CE hours per RP in independent study.
1) laws pertaining to the practice of psychology; OR ethics and professional conduct in the practice of psychology; OR managing risks associated with the practice of psychology.
AND 2) activities designed to enhance competence in the provision of psychological services to culturally diverse populations.
Note: CE credit may be earned only once for the same activity in a single RP (that is, things can’t double-count!).

What is the rule for when the reporting periods are, based on license number?

Answer 1

For psychologists with license numbers ending:

1) with an odd digit, the RP will be March 31st of odd years;
2) with an even digit, the RP will be March 31st of even years.

Question 2

How many CE hours are required if a psychologist is licensed with less than 12 months before the end of their RP?
What if they receive their license with more than 12 months until the end of their RP?

Answer 2

Less = CE hours are not required for that RP. More = 20 CE hours are required before the end of the RP.

How long must psychologists retain documentation of their CE hours?
What does CE documentation include? Why is it important to maintain adequate CE documentation?

Answer 3

At least 4 years after the end of the RP. CE documentation includes: certificates of attendance/completion for workshops, reprints of publications, transcripts or course syllabi, and test results. For all independent study CE hours, a test must be passed and a certificate of completion granted.
The Board may randomly audit psychologists to ensure they are meeting CE requirements (if audited, within 30 days of notification by the Board, the psychologist must provide to the Board: proof of completion of CE hours, a completed CE reporting form, and any additional information requested by the Board).
