What is an “approved program”?
An activity (that is, any authoring, editing, learning, presenting, program developing, reviewing, or teaching which meets the objectives of CE) by an authorized sponsor.
If you want to renew your license every two years, what will you need to do?
Complete all the CE (continuing education) requirements on time.
What is an “authorized sponsor”?
An individual or organization whose programs are accepted by the Board as CE activity.
What does “Continuing Education” mean?
Learning experiences that:
1) are professional activities beyond that required for licensure.
2) are relevant to psychological practice, education, or science.
3) enable psychologists to keep pace with emerging issues and technology.
4) allow psychologists to develop, maintain, and increase competencies in order to improve services to the public and enhance contributions to the profession.
What is a “CE hour”?
Approximately one hour of CE activity.
What is the “reporting period”?
A two-year period beginning on April 1st. The minimum number of CE hours must be earned during this two-year period in order to renew a license by March 31st.
What is “independent study”?
An activity requiring the study of a book or other materials approved by the APA for CE for independent or home study. Important: must be APA-approved.
What is a “course”?
An activity with an instructor who: 1) is an expert on the topic; and 2) imparts knowledge by a systematic presentation to participants.
What is a “seminar”?
An activity with an expert leader who conducts a discussion on a certain topic with highly experienced participants.
What is a “symposium”?
An activity with: 1) two or more speakers having different views on a specific topic; and 2) a discussant who summarizes the issues.
What is a “workshop”?
An activity with an instructor who: 1) is an expert in the specific topic; and 2) imparts knowledge to participants who have ample opportunity to interact.
