1
Q
urine produced by the kidneys produces a mixture of?
A
- urea
- excess mineral ions
- excess water
2
Q
large quantities of urine are normally what colour?
A
- pale yellow
- contains lots of water
- urea is less concentrated
3
Q
smaller quantities of urine are normally what colour?
A
- darker yellow
- contain less water
- urea is more concentrated
4
Q
why will the concentration of water change?
A
- water intake
- temperature
- exercise
5
Q
how is urea formed?
A
- amino acids are filtered into the liver along with the rest of the blood via the hepatic artery and hepatic portal vein
- excess amino acids cannot be stored & need to be broken down so they can be excreted- broken down into carbohydrates and ammonia
- ammonia = toxic - is converted into urea (slightly less toxic chemical)
- amino acids that are needed and the urea are released back into the blood stream via the hepatic vein
6
Q
what are amino acids broken down into?
A
carbohydrates and ammonia
