the circulation system Flashcards
2.69
what is the heart organ?
a double pump
where does oxygenated blood come from?
the lungs
what side does oxygenated blood enter into?
the left side of the heart
what happens to oxygenated blood?
it is pumped to the rest of the body
which ventricle is thicker?
the left ventricle
why does the left ventricle have a thicker muscular wall?
it has to pump blood at a high pressure around the whole body
where does deoxygenated blood enter the heart?
from the right side
where does deoxygenated blood come from?
the body
where does the right ventricle pump blood to?
to the lungs
what does the circulatory system consist of?
a closed network of blood vessels connected to the heart
what is the function of the circulatory system?
to transport substances around the body
what type of blood do organs receive?
oxygenated blood
what collects all the excess tissue fluid that leaks out out of the capillaries?
a different network of lymphatic vessels and they deliver it back to the circulatory system
what blood vessels go towards the heart?
vena cava & pulmonary vein
what blood vessels go away from the heart?
aorta & pulmonary artery
what blood vessel goes towards the lungs?
pulmonary artery
what blood vessel goes away from the lungs?
pulmonary vein
what blood vessel goes towards the kidney?
renal artery
what blood vessel goes away from the kidney?
renal vein
what 3 things does the circulatory system need to transport substances around the body?
- a liquid to transport substances in- the blood
- a pump to move the liquid- the heart
- a series of pipes to direct the liquid to the right places- the blood vessels
what is the pulmonary circulation?
deoxygenated blood is pumped to the lungs and oxygenated blood returns back to the heart
what is the systemic circulation?
oxygenated blood is pumped to all the other organs of the body & deoxygenated blood returns back to the heart
