16
Q

what is a symptom of deficiency of phosphates?

A
  • poor root growth
  • purple younger leaves
17
Q

the rate of photosynthesis depends on what 3 factors?

A

1) carbon dioxide and water
2) light intensity
3) kinetic energy- temperature

18
Q

what is the limiting factor?

A

the factor which is in shortest supply

19
Q

what happens with adding more carbon dioxide?

A
  • the reaction can happen faster- there are more molecules to collide with enzymes
  • then we reach a point where it plateaus- adding more CO2 has no effect- there is a lack of energy
20
Q

what happens when increasing light intensity?

A
  • increase the rate
  • more energy for the reaction
  • doesnt last forever as at high light intensities a different factor is limiting
21
Q

what happens when increasing temperature?

A
  • speeds up the reaction
  • enzymes and substrates have more kinetic energy- collide more often
  • at high temps, the rate decreases and the reaction stops
  • the enzymes have been denatured
