what does FSH cause?
an egg to start maturing
what does FSH also stimulate?
the ovaries to start releasing oestrogen
when is LH released?
when oestrogen levels have reached their peak
what does LH cause?
ovulation to occur and also stimulates the ovary to produce progesterone
what does FSH do?
stimulates the development of a follicle in the ovary
what produces oestrogen?
the follicle developed inside the egg
what happens if the ovum is not fertilised?
the corpus luteum breaks down and progesterone levels drop
what does progesterone do?
maintains the uterus lining
what happens if pregnancy does occur?
the corpus luteum continues to produce progesterone- preventing the uterus lining from breaking down and aborting the pregnancy
