population, community, habitat and ecosystem Flashcards
4.1
what is a population?
the total number of individuals of one species in a particular habitat at a particular time
what is a community?
formed of the populations of all the species present in an ecosystem at a particular time
what is interdependance?

what are abiotic factors?
all the non-living components such as, light intensity, mineral ions and water availability
what is an example of a small ecosystem?
a pond in a garden
what is an example of a large ecosystem?
the whole of Antartica
what is a physical environment?
all the non-living (abiotic) factors which affect growth and survival of living things
include temperature, carbon dioxide and oxygen concentrations, minerals in the soil
