Unit 2.1 - Research Ethics Flashcards
What should a psychological experiment have no matter how simple or complex it is? Explain each.
There should be benefits and costs.
Costs - research team, participants, materials, etc.
Benefits - knowledge and safety society gains, preventative care

Subjects are not used, participants is the correct term.
What are the two components to fair compensation? Explain using examples.
Incentive (benefit) - gift cards, small gifts, raffle
Not coercive - too big or little of a gift to coerce people. This causes them to not fully participate as they are not motivated for the right and valid reasons.
What are the three types of data security? Explain them.
Confidentiality - researchers know who the participants are but the public does not.
Anonymity - researchers and the public do not know who the participants are.
Data Storage - data storage has to be safe.
Data Access - protected against data access
