What is cultural psychology?
it is the idea that our experiences and how we are raised shape our worldview and our attitude.
What is social modelling?
The idea that individuals look to their parents or an older figure or someone on social media to mimic.
Who is Erik Erikson look at?
Erik Erikson was a contemporary of Sigmund Freud and he believed in psychosocial development.
What is psychosocial development?
It is the idea that through socializing with others, we develop (see who to trust and what not to do, etc.).
What did Lev Vygotsky do?
He promoted social scaffolding?
What is social scaffolding?
He believed children learn through an older figure.
What did Uri Bronfenbrenner promote?
He promoted the ecological theory.
What is the ecological theory?
Psychological development is influenced by many domains. The core is who we are genetically, then it’s people we are in direct contact with, then things we are indirectly in contact with (community, school) then it is the broader things like religion and such.
Who was involved in feminist psychology?
Karen Horney, Sandra Bam, and Carol Gilligan.
What did Karen Honey promote?
She promoted feminism in psychoanalysis.
What did Sandra Bam promote?
She looked at differences between gender and personality.
What did Carol Gilligan promote?
She promoted women and morality, adjusted morality measures with a feminist approach.
What is cross-cultural psychology?
Looking at psychology across diverse cultures.
What did Mildred Berryman do?
She looked at the phenomena of homosexuals; she studied LGBTQ+ communities.
