What is the IRB?
It is the institutional review board. It reviews proposals for experiments with human participants.
What is informed consent?
Written description fo what to expect, risks, and implications fo the research.
What are deceptions?
It is purposely misleading participants in a proper way. Debriefing is required at the end to release honest info about what happened in experiment.
What is IACUC?
It is the institutional animal care and use committee. Reviews proposals with animals to ensure humane car.e
What is scientific knowledge?
It is empirical, it is grounded in objective, has tangible evidence that can be observed time and time again.
What are facts?
Observable realties.
What are opinions?
Personal judgements, conclusions, or attitudes.
What is deductive reasoning?
Ideas tested in the real world.
What is inductive reasoning?
Real-world observations leading to new ideas.
What is a theory?
Well-developed set of ideas that propose an explanation for well-observed phenomena too complex to be tested (thus different hypothesis test it)
What is a hypothesis?
A testable prediction about how the world will behave if an idea is correct. It bridges realm of ideas and the real-world. It MUST BE FALSIFIABLE.
