Psych Reading Part 2 Unit 2 Flashcards
What is survey research?
It is collected data from large samples using surveys,
What is archival research?
Using existing records.
What is survey and archival research go under?
It is correlational research as it does not equal to cause and effect, only speaks to important relationships that may exist between two variables.
What is experimental research?
Lots of control over variables as it is conducted in an artificial setting, but there are concerns regarding its validity and ethics.
What is clinical/case study research?
Focus on one or a few individuals over a long course, it is difficult to generalize but gains tremendous info.
What is generalizing?
It is the ability to apply findings to larger segments of the population.
What is naturalistic observation?
Observing behaviour in a natural setting. Increases generalizability.
What is observer bias?
Unconsciously skew observations to fit in research expectations.
What is inter-rater reliability?
It is the measure of reliability that assesses the consistency of observations by different observers.
What are surveys?
List of questions to be answered, good for large samples.
What is a sample?
It is a subset of individuals from a population researchers are interested in.
What is longitudinal research?
It is data gathering over an extended period of time. (one time period, then again)
What is cross-sectional research?
It is data gathering from multiple segments of the population short term (age groups).
What are attrition rates?
Participant drop outs. Reduction is high in longitudinal research.
