Class / Action
A
Paralytic. Depolarizing Neuromuscular Blocker.
- Prolongs depolarization of the muscle end plate
- Induces skeletal muscle relaxation causing onset of flaccid paralysis in less than 1min
- Has no effect on consciousness, pain threshold, or cerebration

Onset / Duration of Action
A
Onset IV/IO: 30-60sec IM: 2-3min / Duration of 4-10min

Indications
A
To facilitate endotracheal intubation in patients with an intact gag reflex

Contraindications
A
- Known Hypersensitivity
- Acute Glaucoma, penetrating eye injuries
- Suspected Hyperkalemia
- 24hrs or more post-burn
- 7days or more post-Crush Injury Syndrome (CIS)

Precautions
A
- Changes in cardiac rhythm may result from Vargas stimulation
- CAUTION In patients with possible increased ICP

Dosages / Administration
A
- ADULT: 1.5mg/kg IV/IO. May use IM if IV/IO is unattainable; Double to IV/IO Dose.
- PEDS: 2mg/kg IV/IO

Adverse Reactions
A
- Prolonged muscle relaxation, Prolonged respiratory depression or apnea, Bradycardia, Tachycardia, Hypertension, Hypotension, Arrhythmias, Excessive salivation.
- Potential increase in ICP with second and third doses.
