Electrolyte - Calcium Salt
- Involved in regulation of cell membrane permeability to sodium and potassium
- Plays a role in excitation contraction coupling (increases force of myocardial and muscle contraction)

Immediate Onset / 30min - 2hours Duration of Action

Indications
A
- Suspected Hyperkalemia exhibiting tall, peaked T-waves, QRS Prolongation, low P-waves
- Calcium-channel blocker or beta-blocker overdose
- Antidote for magnesium sulfate toxicity
- Crush Injury Syndrome Hyperkalemia

Contraindications
A
- Ventricular fibrillation
- Digitalis intoxication (may result in Asystole)
- Hypercalcemia

Precautions
A
- Extravasation causes tissue sloughing
- Dehydration
- Do Not Mix with Sodium Bicarbonate (flush line first)

Dosages / Administration
A
- 10% = 100mg/mL
- ADULT: 3g/5min IV/IO; May repeat in 20min PRN
- PED: 60mg/kg SLOW IV/IO Push

Adverse Reactions
A
- Bradycardia, Asystole, Ventricular Fibrillation
