A
Glucocorticoid
- Synthetic steroid that is related chemically to the natural hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex
- Suppresses acute and chronic inflammation
- Potentials the relaxation of vascular and bronchial smooth muscle by beta adrenergic agonists
- Possibly alters airway hyperactivity

A
- Moderate to severe asthma, croup or COPD
- Moderate to severe allergic reactions
- Moderate to severe angioedema
- Anaphylaxis

- Active untreated infections
- Incompatible with Diphenhydramine; Flush between meds
- Medication should be protected from heat

- ADULT: 0.6mg/kg IV/PO up to 10mg
- PED: 0.6mg/kg IV/PO up to 10mg
