What is Culture?
All things learnt and shared through generations through socialisation.
What are Norms?
The social standards of behaviour for certain situations.
What are Sanctions?
Where society tries to ensure everyone behaves as others would expect them to.
What is Social Control?
Anything that encourages people to conform to the norm, positive or negative.
What are values?
Principles or goals, tells us whats good and what to aim for.
What is Socialisation?
Learning all the things necessary for us to be accepted as full members of society.
What is Primary Socialisation?
Socialisation that takes place in the early stages of life. e.g. languages, basic skills, norms
What is Secondary Socialisation?
Socialisation that takes place at school and wider society.
What is Status?
A position in society.
What is Race?
A group of people distinguished by physical appearance. e.g. skin colour, hair type
What is Ethnicity?
A group or people belonging to a population of people with a common culture background.
What is Sex?
Sex is male and female and is based on their reproductive functions.
What is Gender?
The characteristics of women, men, girls and boys that are socially constructed.
