The shared norms, beliefs, and knowledge that makes cooperation between individuals possible. Giving a sense of belonging.

The view that focuses on how members of society themselves define religion.
What is false consciousness?
A disorted view or reality that prevents the poor from acting to change a situation.
What is a function definition?
Social or psychological functions religion performs for individuals or society.
What is ideology?
A set of beliefs that serve the interest of a dominant group by justifying their position in society.
What is opium?
A highly adddictive drug that numbs pain.
What are ideological functions?
Supports the view that institutions keep the existing ruling lass in power.
What are piety movements?
Conservative movements that supports traditional teachings about womens role, dress, prayer and bibly study.

Things that have no significance. e.g. water bottle

Helping people cope with emotional stress that would undermine social solidarity.

Things that are set apart and forbidden that inspires feelings of awe, fear and wonder.
