What is compensatory education?
Government education that takes underachievement by providing extra support and funding to school and families in deprived areas.
What is the critical race theory?
A theory that sees racism as an ingrained feature of society.
What is discrimination?
Treating people differently because they are a member of a certain social group.
What is ethnocentric?
The belief in the inherent superiority of ones own ethnic group or culture.
What is the ethnocentric curriculum?
An attitude that gives priority to the culture and viewpoint of one ethnic group, disregarding others.
What is family structure?
The composition of a group of people who live together as a family unit.
What is the ideal pupil identity?
A white, M/C, masculine identity with a ‘normal’(straight) sexuality.
What is identity?
An individuals sense of self, influenced by socialisation and interactions with others; a sense of belonging.
What is individual racism?
The prejudiced views and discriminatory behaviour of individuals.
What is institutional racism?
When the routine ways of an organisation operates have racist outcomes regardless of intentions with the individual. Often systematic and internalised.
What are linguistic skills?
Having efficiency in the grammar, structure, phonology, etc. like multiple languages.
What is pathologised pupil identity?
An Asian, ‘deserving poor’. Feminised identity, either asexual or an oppressed sexuality.
What is locked-in inequality?
The discrimination against minority ethnic groups that is so deep rooted an large scale, its inevitable and hard to eradicate.
The demonised pupil identity?
A black or white, W/C, hyper-sexualised identity.
