Onboard it is completed by our safety officer who is the 2nd officer

A

Yes, this lives in our crewmen’s so any crew member can read. On joining they must read then sign and date to confirm they have understood.

It includes information like:
- Introduction to SMS
- Company policies
- DPA
- Roles and responsibilities
- Safety procedures and practices
- Documentation and record keeping
- Training
- Audits
- Communication and reporting

What are the M Notices?

A

MSN - Merchant Shipping Notices
Often contain details of UK law and are legally enforceable when referred to by a Statutory Instrument.

MGN - Marine Guidance Notices
Gives guidance and recommendations about best practice to industry on interpretation of law and general safety advice.

MIN - Marine Information Notices
Provide less important time limited information.
