Antifoul Flashcards

1
Q

What do we use?

A

We use international, the paint is a self polishing co polymer type. It is designed to release biocides gradually as the hull moves through the water, providing continuous protection against marine fouling while providing a smooth finish.

Q

How does the paint work?

A

As water flows over the surface it undergoes a controlled erosion, removing any biocides. The additives in the paint also release biocides which then create a protective layer, preventing growth

Q

What is the importance of thorough cleaning before new application?

A

It removes any dirt, oil, grease, growth or old paint that will prevent the new paint bonding and maximizing its performance. This will lead to poor coverage or peeling, leaving the hull unprotected.

Q

Why do we use Anti fouling?

A
  • To prevent Marine Growth to reduce drag and increase efficiency
  • To provide a smooth finish to reduce hull frictional resistance as above
  • To protect the hull from Corrosion and Galvanic current flow
